John R. Austin started his career as a soybean merchant in the Midwest and later served as an Analyst on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT). This experience led to a career in financial services spanning three decades. During this time, Austin has served as an executive in the banking, securities, offshore funds and financial software industries in firms ranging from Fortune 500 companies to Internet start-ups. Currently, he is the co-owner of Austin Wealth Management, LLC a boutique, fee-based, investment advisory firm serving businesses, individuals and Diplomats worldwide. Austin is a CFP®, an NASD Registered Principal and Investment Advisor Representative of Financial Network Investment Corporation, an ING Company and Member, SIPC.

 
  Austin is a graduate of Eisenhower College of the Rochester Institute of Technology and has a Masters in International Management from Thunderbird, the Garvin School of International Management, where he graduated with Distinction (Highest Honors). Austin is fluent in Portuguese and is conversational in other languages.
 
 
    Austin is a native of Massachusetts and has lived in Montgomery County for two decades. He is married; the father of two children and four dogs and lives in Brookeville.
 
    Austin has been President, Treasurer and a Director of the local chapter of his trade association, the FPA, and was awarded the Leadership Award and the Distinguished Service Award. He was President of a local American Field Service (AFS) Alumni Association, President of a local Thunderbird Alumni Association and is a Thunderbird Who’s Who designee. Austin founded the CRDC English as a Second Language (ESL) tutorial program and mainstreamed scores of Asian immigrants into the US economy by hosting a CRDC related (CETA) job-training program. Austin has served as a local PTSA Treasurer. He is a member of the Rotary, the NFIB, the Montgomery County and Olney Chambers of Commerce and is a member of the Greater Olney Civic Association. A member of St. Peter’s parish, he has served as a Catechist and member of the Knights of Columbus.
 
  Austin has edited a number of industry newsletters, has been quoted widely in the press and has appeared on television and radio. He has also produced and hosted his own cable television program.  
   
 

Austin has been active in politics and served as a steering committee member for two Congressional races and a Board of Education contest. He has been an active political volunteer at the local level in Maryland and California. He was the Mayor’s appointee to the Rockville Sister Cities organization and served as a Director. Austin is a member of the District 14 Republican Club and the Montgomery County Men’s Republican Club and the Maryland League of Conservation Voters.

 

 

  Austin is the eldest of five children. His grandparents were Irish émigrés, who came through Ellis Island in the 1900’s. Austin grew-up in a neighborhood that spoke Gaelic. He is the first of his family to attend college and the first to attend graduate school. As a foreign exchange student in Brazil, he saw the American dream from both sides.
